Three Rare Black-Necked Storks Hatch in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary
Preah Vihear (08 December 2017) – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Ministry of Environment (MoE) announced today that after five weeks of active nest protection by community members, three Black-necked stork chicks have hatched in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) in the Northern Plains of Cambodia, giving hope to the future conservation of this rare species in the country.

(Koh Kong, Cambodia - 13 November 2017) –The Royal Government of Cambodia’s Fisheries Administration (FiA), WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), and the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) announced today the release of 25 Royal Turtles into their natural habitat in the Sre Ambel river system—the only place in Cambodia where this species is found.

121 And Counting: Nests of Globally Vulnerable Lesser Adjutant Located in Northern Plains of Cambodia
Preah Vihear (November 1, 2017) –Conservationists from Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), and local communities have discovered 121 lesser adjutant nests to date in Kulen Promtep and Chhep Wildlife Sanctuaries in the Northern Plains of Cambodia during the 2017 breeding season. WCS has hired 10 local community teams, under the bird nest protection program to locate, monitor and protect nests until fledging. These conditional payments ensure that the globally threatened nests are protected from poaching, egg collection and disturbance.

Thirty Large Mammal Species Recorded in Cambodia’s Chhep Wildlife Sanctuary
(Preah Vihear 17 August, 2017)– Conducted by experts from Kyoto University of Japan and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), a camera trap study has recorded the presence of 30 large mammal species in Chhep Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) in the Northern Plains of Cambodia.

Nineteen Critically Endangered Giant Ibis Nests Discovered in Northern Plains of Cambodia

 Success of Local Nest Protection Sparks Hope for Worldwide Conservation of Globally Endangered Greater Adjutant
Battambang (27 July 2017) –Endangered greater adjutant chicks have successfully fledged from 175 nests in the Prek Toal Ramsar Site in Cambodia and disbursed across the country. The nests were protected for six months by conservationists from Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), Prek Toal village, and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

Globally Endangered Masked Finfoot Nest Discovered in Cambodia

Preah Vihear (21 July 2017) - Conservationists from the Ministry of Environment (MoE), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and local communities have discovered an Endangered masked finfoot nest for the first time in four years in the Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) in Preah Vihear Province. This site is the only confirmed breeding location in Cambodia for this very rare species.
